Laser Engraving Equipment
Laser engraving equipment is useful for placing notes, identification marks, and general symbols onto surfaces that can be burned easily. In the computer chip market this has led to a whole class of polymers that can be laser etched with a small laser and micro pulses to create clean images on the surface of a variety of materials. Materials like plastics, metals, coated metals, and even stone and glass can be engraved with the proper allocation of heat from a high intensity laser machine. Jewelry and fine art has also grown from this industry to create a whole subculture of art that stems from the artistic capacity if designs that are placed with the laser medium.
Some laser engraving equipment uses a black photographic style film. In these systems, the laser etches a relief of the photograph or style that the customer desires. Then the sheet of film is run through a wash and dry cycle to remove the remaining substance. The end product of this style of laser engraving is a template that can be used on other production lines. A specialized subsection of laser engraving equipment is the sub-surface laser engraving. SSLE is a process by which the middle of s substance, usually glass, is etched with a three dimensional image so that the user can have a nearly or to scale representation of the substance. However, due to the complexity and expense of these machines, there is estimated to be only a few hundred worldwide, ranging from 25 to 250 thousand dollars.
