Medical Laser Equipment

Medical laser equipment has gained some popularity do the chemical applications of certain drugs. There are certain kinds of medications which react only when in contact with a certain wavelength. Photodynamic therapy takes advantage of these claims. PDT is primarily a skin based reaction that occurs when the patient is given a photosensitivity pill. The pill is allowed to circulate throughout the body, and when the time is right, a laser of a very specific wavelength is shined onto the targeted area using medical laser equipment. A series of chemical reactions occur in which the excited medications needs oxygen and the tissue on the surface dies. Treatments like these are a popular method of dealing with skin tumors.

There is also the eye care medical laser equipment that can be seen in situations like LASIK eye surgery. There are two different kinds of lasers used in this procedure. The first set of lasers is used in the research phase to detect the topography of the eye to determine the thickness of the cornea. These lasers are low power and are not meant to cut or severe, but to observe. Then the actual procedure occurs, where the cornea is cut and folded. Then the cornea beneath is adjusted with a laser, with the final step being the replacement of the cornea.
